Samayapuram

 Samayapuram is a prominent neighborhood in Tiruchirappalli, located approximately 15–17 km from the city center on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway (NH-45). It is best known as the site of the Arulmigu Samayapuram Mariamman Temple, one of the wealthiest and most powerful Shakthi shrines in Tamil Nadu, renowned for healing diseases and granting wishes at the "perfect time." 


The temple, dedicated to Samayapurathal (Goddess Mariamman), features a unique deity made of sand and clay, which is why traditional holy ablutions (abhishekam) are not performed on the main idol, though flower sprinkling is done during the annual Poochoriyal festival. Devotees visit in large numbers, especially on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, to offer gold Mangalsutras and metallic body part replicas, believing the goddess cures ailments like smallpox, chicken pox, and measles.

Significance: The temple is considered a Parihara Sthalam (place of remedy) and is the second richest temple in Tamil Nadu after Palani. 

Festivals: Major events include Thai Poosam (11 days), Chithirai Festival (13 days), and the unique Poochoriyal (flower sprinkling) in the Tamil month of Maasi.
